2020-21 Bench Staff Requirements

Team officials & bench staff, the OMHA has provided us with an updated requirement document with all information in regards to Clinics and Certifications you will need to complete for this upcoming 2020/21 hockey season.

I am new and will be coaching a U9 team.   What do I need?
You will need to take the OMHA Coach 1 – Intro to Coach Qualification online clinic for New coaches.

The *HU-Coach 1 / Coach 2 online course is part of the Coach 1 – Intro to Coach Qualification online clinic.  Once you register and pay, you will be emailed the embedded *HU link. 

You will also need to complete the following: Hockey University: Planning a Safe Return to Hockey

- Respect in Sport – Activity Leader Program https://omha.respectgroupinc.com/secure/ 

- Gender Identity & Expression Coursehttps://www.ohf.on.ca/coaches/gender-identity-training 

- Rowan’s Law Resource Review & Acknowledgement 

I am new and will be coaching a U13 team.  What do I need?

You will need to take the OMHA Coach 2 - Coach Level Qualification online clinic for New coaches.

The *HU-Coach 1 / Coach 2 and *HU-ONLINE Checking courses are part of the OMHA Coach 2 - Coach Level Qualification online clinic.  Once you register and pay, you will be emailed the embedded *HU links. 

 You will also need to complete the following:
·         Hockey University: Planning a Safe Return to Hockey (new)
·         Respect in Sport – Activity Leader Program
·         Gender Identity & Expression Course
·         Rowan’s Law Resource Review & Acknowledgement 

A coach currently holds a Coach 2 - Coach Level “Trained” qualification that is expiring, their options are:

you have two options for your Expired Coach 2 Trained Qualification. 
1) For Coach 2 Trained move to Certified:
    a) Completion of the Coach 2 – Coach Level Post-Task Workbook
    b) Complete the Making Ethical Decisions – Online Evaluation module through the CAC Locker. This document provides direction to access the MED – Online Evaluation.
    c) Submit the completed Post-Task Workbook to your local association for approval and submission of page 33 sign off to the OMHA office. 

OR

2) The expiring Coach 2 ‘Trained’ Coach who elects not to complete the Certification process will be required to complete the requirements outlined for Coach 2 ‘New Coaches’ above in order to be eligible for the coming season. 

My Coach 2 Certified Qualification Expired.  What do I do?

Process for Re-Certification:
Obtain the required 10 Professional Development points through the Hockey Canada Certification Maintenance Program.

Require additional Professional Development (PD) Points?
Did you know that you can self-report active coaching and self-directed learning? Certified coaches are eligible to receive 1 PD point per year of active coaching and up to 3 PD points per maintenance cycle for coaches that report self-directed learning. Click on “Self-Report” under the “Certification” tab in your Locker profile.

Once you have updated your qualification, please check your profiles to confirm status. If status is not accurately reflected in either profile, please contact the OMHA office to ensure your profile is up to date.

A coach currently holds a Development 1 "Trained" qualification that is expiring, their options are:

1) Complete the following to be considered “in process” for the 2020-2021 season:
     a) Development 1 Post-Task Workbook
     b) Making Ethical Decisions – Online Evaluation module through the CAC Locker. This document provides direction to access the MED – Online Evaluation.
     c) Submit Development 1 Request for Evaluation form to their Local MHA

OR

2) The expiring Development 1 ‘Trained’ Coach who elects not to complete the Certification process will be required to complete the requirements outlined for Coach 2 ‘New Coaches’ above in order to be eligible for the coming season.
