Novice Warriors 5000 Shot Challenge
How much do you think your son’s shot would
improve if he was to take 5000 shots in 10 weeks?
There’s evidence to show that daily micro-practices are
effective and often superior to longer practice sessions once or twice a
week. When you practice a little each day, skills don’t erode.
GOAL: Increase shot speed, quickness and accuracy.
PLAN: Shoot 5000 pucks over a 10 week period.
PARTICIPANTS: EVERYONE (including goalies – see bottom of page).
The Plan sounds aggressive but when it is broken down, it works out to only100 shots per day, 5 days a week. Or if completing daily, works out to 72 shots per day which would be less than a half hour per day.
RULES:
1. All shots must be tracked and submitted weekly, honestly of course, via e-mail to myself and CC Nancy DeGuili by Saturday night/Sunday morning.
2. Challenge begins September 29, 2013 and will end Saturday December 7, 2013.
3. Players must shoot a minimum of 500 shots per week to qualify for prizes.
4. Players are encouraged to shoot more than the minimum shots per week.
What you will need: • A regulation size net (Street hockey, or ice hockey, can even be an area drawn on a concrete wall) • Shooter tutor or targets (Can be made out of plywood or purchased) but not necessary • Shooting surface (concrete floor, driveway, 3'x3' heavy plastic sheet) • 10-100 pucks.
Motivation: Not that it’s needed, but people tend to work harder when there is a tangible goal…
* The player with the most shots over the 10 week period will get a $50 gift certificate from Pro Hockey Life.
* The player with the second most shots over the 10 week period will get a $30 gift certificate from Pro Hockey Life.
* The player with the third most shots over the 10 week period will get a $20 gift certificate from Pro Hockey Life.
* Each remaining player finishing the challenge will receive a $5 gift certificate from Dairy Queen.

GOALIES: The goalies qualify as all the players do, the only difference is, they have to “Face 5000 Shots” in a 10 week period. This can be either completed by your parent(s), siblings or hook up with a close neighbour/teammate to take his daily shots on you where he is supposed to be taking them. For example, Week 2, the shooter will be trying top corner, either side, which will work the goalies glove and blocker. Work as a team.
Players pay close attention at the shooting clinic how to properly execute a wrist shot, and also at our practices. If possible, for more accuracy when it comes to height and stick length, put a pair of roller blades on to increase your height to match your stick length, or your skates with good skate guards of course. After the first week or two, this will be VERY noticeable on the ice at practice and games. Those who do not, will also be very noticeable. We will send out an excel sheet you can print for personal tracking throughout the week also, with a TOTAL column that either you, or the player can fill out daily. Good luck to everyone and I would like to see ALL participate. This will not just help you as a player, this will help your whole team. GO WARRIORS!!!
