Tournament of champions - Game three
The Minor Bantam AA Warriors were matched up with the Humberview Huskies
this morning, November 11th, for their third game in the SCMHA’s
Tournament of Champions.
We started off fore-checking well and putting the puck deep. We were rewarded with a nice goal from Jaxon (43), after a good effort from Antonio (28), behind the net. We had a strong power play effort, Zach (22), Antonio (28) and Thomas (75) all being physical out there. We had strong face-offs from Riley (29), which continued throughout the game. We took the lead, 1-0, into the second period. During the second we had to kill off a 4 minute penalty but one part of our game, the penalty kill, continued to be a strong suit for us. Gianluca (77) had a strong period making his presence known throughout! Zach (22) and Antonio (28) continued to be hard on the puck and generated some good chances. Unfortunately Humber scored and after ter two it was tied 1-1. Throughout the third, our penalty kill was again under siege as we took 3 minors. Our defencemen Ryan (10), Matthew (19), Justin (8), Evan (49) and Patrick (27) all did a good job on the kill. Again the Huskies scored an even strength goal that made it 2-1 just prior to the Rememberance ceremony. Everyone in the arena observed 2 minutes of silence in honour of all the brave men and women who have defended this country and our belief in democracy and freedom. Shortly after getting under way, Thomas (75) took advantage of a Huskie miscue and set up a beautiful goal to Nicky (55) and it was all tied up. Despite being on a penalty kill, both Evan (49) and Gianluca (77) almost made them pay with aggressive fore-checking in the Huskies’ end. Unfortunately, the Huskies went ahead 3-2 and, despite a late effort on our part, they took home the win. Final shots were 25-13 in the Huskies favour. Another strong and consistent part of our game is goal tending. It was Tomas (33) turn to put in a top effort. The winning goal was a double deflection or he could have stopped that one. Despite the loss, the team put in a strong finish and there is no reason we can’t take down the Tecumseh Shoreline Eagles at 6:15 tonight at Saltfleet.
